Five years ago our community welcomed the completion and opening of Brevard County’s only freestanding hospice house − The William Childs Hospice House. The long-awaited, much-needed resource for patients and their families needing another end-of-life care option was named in memory of William Childs, a patient who died in the care of Hospice of Health First in 2002. His wife Madeline made a generous lead gift to the building campaign for the house.  Her special gift, along with many others from our community, helped the William Childs Hospice House become a reality and open its doors in October five years ago.

On Saturday, October 10, 2009, Hospice of Health First will be celebrating the William Childs Hospice House’s fifth anniversary with a special event called Walking to Remember. This family-friendly, one-mile walk will start from and return to the Hospice House porch, travel a circular path along a greenway complete with a gazebo and small lake, and stroll through the Palm Bay Hospital to view the beautiful newly completed expansion, chapel, and Gail Schuneman Serenity Garden. Interactive Survivor Memorial activity stations will be set up throughout the walk, as well as places to rest and have refreshments.

To commemorate five years of serving patients and their families, Hospice of Health First created this Walking to Remember Memorial website. Please take a few minutes to share a memory of your loved ones with other hospice survivors. If you are interested in making a donation in support of the hospice mission, just follow the directions to make an online donation.

This website will be live through November, National Hospice Month. For any questions regarding Hospice of Health First, call us at 321-952-0494.
